Marri Sewalong : Joining Pattern Pieces

Marri Sewalong Joining Pattern Pieces

Hey everyone! I’m so happy to share with you the sewalong for the Marri slip dress and camisole! But before we get started on construction, let’s first go over how to join the pattern pieces together. Because Marri is a ‘mix and match’ pattern – 3 neckline options and 3 length options – the pattern pieces are all conveniently separate. That way, you can easily make whatever combo you would like! They may be listed as Views A, B, and C, but you can easily take the square neck bodice of View A, and pair it with the slip dress length bottom of View B. Or want a v-neck camisole? Pair the bodice of View C with the cami bottom of View A. you can mix and match any way you please! So let’s go over that quickly…

Like I said, there are three bodice options –

  • square neck bodice
  • round neck bodice
  • v-neck bodice

and three bottom options –

  • cami hem
  • slip skirt
  • maxi skirt (with side slits)

Every bodice pattern piece, and every bottom pattern piece, have this little half-square. And they all match up!

You can choose to either cut out the little half square, or keep it in-tact. I showed it both ways here.

Just decide what bodice shape and what bottom length you want to pair together! Here you can see I’m putting together a straight View A – square neck bodice with cami hem…

But then I could also switch it up and pair the square neck bodice with the slip skirt of view B!

Or, I could take the v-neck bodice of view C, and match it up with the cami hem. They all match up perfectly.

So once you’ve made your decision, just line up the half-squares to make the full square, and tape the pattern pieces together.

Just make sure that you are using the FRONT bottom pieces with the front bodices.

Here’s just another example, where I didn’t cut out the square shape, but still able to line them up.

Now you just need to do the same for the back pattern pieces. There is only ONE back bodice pattern piece that is used for all views.

So take your corresponding back pattern piece, and attach it to the back bodice in the same manner – matching up the square.

So if you’re making a cami, make sure you have the Cami Hem Back.

If you’re making a slip dress, make sure you attach the Slip Skirt Back to the Back Bodice. Etc, etc.

And thats it. Have fun mixing and matching!
