It’s the very last step in our Rowan construction – It’s hem time! This will cover the bottom hem finish of your tee versions, as well as the sleeve hem finish for all versions – short or long sleeve. this is a quick one, so let’s finish it up!

Turn in the hem of your tee, towards the wrong side, by 1/2″ and press.

Topstitch using a zig zag stitch or twin needle.

Here it is from the right side of the fabric.

Repeat the same steps with the sleeves.
Optional: hem tape
If you want to add a little bit of stability the hem and prevent waving and rippling when stitching, you can choose to use a fusible hem tape. There are different brands/types, so make sure you follow the instructions of whichever one you have. I’m going to show you how I used ‘Heat n Bond Soft Stretch’ below.

This is the roll of hem adhesive. It has a paper backing on one side.

With the paper side up, line up the hem tape with the raw edge of your hem, and press lightly right over top of the paper.

Let it cool, and then peel off the paper backing.

It’s hard to see, but it leaves behind the adhesive.

Fold up the hem and press again.

This fuses the two layers together. Now you can do your topstitching with stability and less waving!
