This post today is specifically for if you choose to add the drawstring channel to your Protea dress. If you’re making a top or skirt, you can skip this post!

Turn in the short edges of the waist channelling by 3/8″ (1cm) and press.

Turn in 3/8″ (1cm) once more and press.

Topstitch close to the folded edge to enclose the raw edges.

Fold the waist channelling in half width-ways with wrong sides together and press.

With the bodice right side facing out, mark the centre back along the waistline raw edge.

Find the centre of the channelling.
Place the channelling on the bodice with right sides together and so that the raw edges are aligned, and the centre of the channelling is matched up with the centre back mark.

There are also notches on the channel that aligns with the side seams of the bodice.

Continue pinning in place.

Along the front, the open ends of the channel should align with the notches on the bodice.

Baste the channel to the bodice 1/2″ (1.3cm) from the raw edge.
