How gorgeous is the paperbag waistband version of Opal?! It’s still my favourite comfy elastic waistband, but with a bit of added flare! I think it’s a detail that looks great in both a casual pair of linen shorts, or dressed up in something like a cotton sateen tapered pant that I could wear out to dinner! (i.e. when elastic waistbands come in handy). And you know what the best part is, it’s still super easy! Only a few extra steps compared to the standard waistband. So that’s what we’re covering in today’s post. Ready to get going?
Opal Sewalong // Standard Waistband
Next stop on the Opal sewalong journey is the waistband! I don’t know about you, but elasticated waistbands have been a close companion and saving grace for me lately! Opal has two gorgeous elasticated options and today we are going to go through the standard version. If you’ve decided on the paper bag option, you can go right ahead and skip this post, tomorrow’s tutorial will be for you. So, let’s jump in!
Opal Sewalong // Belt Loops and Belt
I love all the options you can choose to add and customise in Opal, including the belt loops and belt. You can just add the belt loops so you can wear your Opals with a belt of your own, or sew a fabric belt to match your garment! That’s what we’re covering today in the next step of the Opal sewalong, so let’s get started!
Opal Sewalong // Seams
Next up on our Opal pants and shorts sewalong are the seams! That includes side seams, crotch seams, and inseam (if you did the inseam pockets, you’ve already sewn the side seams, but if you did the patch pockets, you haven’t. So I’ll go over it quickly before we move on to the rest of the seams). And just a note – I’ll be showing you these seams of the shorts just because its easier to fit in frame for photos, but it is exactly the same for the pants – just longer seams! Ok, lets get to it…
Opal Sewalong // Patch Pockets
Yesterday we went over the inseam pocket option for our Opal pants and shorts, and today we are going to go over the other option – patch pockets! I’ll actually go over the front patch pockets, as well as the back pockets in this post. But if you choose to do inseam pockets instead for the front, feel free to skip this post and refer back to yesterday’s post instead!
You’ll notice our front patch pockets also have two lengths! Our normal length, but also a bonus deep pocket option, because hey – who doesn’t love wonderfully deep pockets!
