My home sewing space

I decided to change up my home sewing space last year, and thought i’d give you a little peek at what my little home sewing set up looks like!

If you’ve been following for a while you’ve probably watched my workspace evolve many times. Most of the time I have kept my sewing space in our home office, but the one thing I don’t have in my home office is a cutting table, so when sewing at home I usually use our dining table as my cutting table. Oddly, I really love cutting on the dining table because it’s right in the middle of our home and so I feel more connected to the rest of the family.

We have a wall at the back of our family room that usually houses a console table and not much else, so last year when I was filming a tutorial for the Flint bib overalls I decided to use that open space for the video. And I really liked it! So I decided to move my sewing machine and overlocker to this space to try it out for a bit. I’m so used to sewing on my own that it’s been so refreshing to sew in the family room with everyone around. I blinked and it’s been over a year since I’ve been sewing in the family room! Things take a bit longer and I stop and have lots of chats, but being connected with the rest of the family whilst I do my favourite hobby has been really lovely.

Since then I moved a little Ikea cube shelf next to it to hold currently in progress projects and a few sewing supplies. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep this little sewing station going, but it has been so nice sewing against this little wall in our living room for the past year while my kids play and read and bustle around me.

Hi Meghan,
I think the living room is the best spot too. I was wondering, do you use your Elna? I live sewing on my Mums one.
