Bunny was given this super cute tote bag by her auntie a while back and she loves it so much that she wanted to use it as her sports bag for school. The problem was that without a closure there wasn’t really anything to stop her stuff falling out all over the place. As often happens I remembered I could sew – so I decided to add a zip to her tote bag! I used a separating zip so that she can unzip it all the way if desired and use it as a tote bag whenever she wants to. It was a really easy addition and I love how it turned out! This method works equally well for an existing tote bag (store bought or handmade is fine!) or you can pair this method with our DIY Tote bag tutorial and make yourself a zip up tote bag from scratch. Alright, let me show you how to add a zip to a tote bag after the jump!
Buddy’s Adventure Mini Jarrah Sweater
Alternative title: Buddy has a never-ending growth spurt. My goodness, this kid just keeps growing! All my kids seem to be growing at lightning speed at the moment -but Bud especially is shooting up. I can’t keep up to be honest especially with the pants – i have made him so many Mini Hudsons, and every time I think I’ve left enough growing room, he gets taller! I made this Adventure Mini Jarrah for him the same day that I made Birdie’s Giraffe sweater dress, which was only a few months ago in winter, and it looks unlikely to last next winter. Hopefully i’ll be wrong – he still wears his grid sweater even though it’s getting a bit small, so maybe i’ll get lucky!
Dress Like a Crayon!
I have become obsessed with the Dress Like a Crayon movement (can we call it a movement? trend? challenge? way of life?) which I believe was started by What Katie Sews. If you aren’t familiar with the #dresslikeacrayon hashtag I encourage you to have a quick scroll, it’s just so enjoyable! It seems to me that the idea is simple – wear a monochromatic outfit, simplify getting dressed and have fun! I have loved seeing the sewing community get on board with this concept, and I wanted IN! So today I bring you my first attempt at dressing like a crayon, you know… two years late.
Birdie’s Giraffe Mini Jarrah Sweater Dress
Birdie’s favourite animal is the Giraffe, so as soon as I saw the See You At Six Giraffe print sweatshirt terry at MaaiDesign, I knew I had to snap some up for her immediately! I was planning on making her a Mini Jarrah sweater, but she had other plans and very quickly requested a Giraffe Mini Jarrah sweater dress. I love taking my kids requests into account when making things for them, so one Saturday when I was working in the retail side of the studio I quietly worked on this sweater dress in-between lovely chats about sewing with our local makers.
