I feel quite sad writing this, but this is Bunny’s last Book Week. Next year she will be in High School and they don’t do Book Week anymore. I have loved making her Book Week costumes each year – bringing her requests to life has brought me so much joy and I’m a bit gutted her time dressing up as her favourite book characters is over. Of course this means that when she asked me to make her a very detailed Wings of Fire Moon Book Week costume I was determined to make it work. Even though I had no idea how to make a dragon haha.
Easy Calvin & Hobbes Book Week Costume
This year Buddy wins the prize for the easiest Book Week costume! I must admit after making quite detailed costumes for my girls and I was so grateful to Buddy for choosing something that was pretty easy to create in an afternoon and honestly could be done quicker if you’re a better shopper than I am. I can’t wait to show you how we put together this super easy Calvin and Hobbes costume (which he’ll also be using for Halloween).
The Paw Book Week costume
Birdie decided what she wanted to be for Book Week over a year ago, and has been biding her time waiting for this moment. The Paw is one of Chris’ books from his childhood and has now become Birdie’s favourite book! It’s the story of a little girl called Leonie, who becomes a cat burglar at night, stealing caviar from the rich to feed stray cats. I was so excited to help bring her dream to live and I had so much fun making The Paw Book Week costume with all it’s over the top details!
Rowan Now In Extended Sizes!
Wonderful news today – I’m thrilled to let you know that the Rowan Bodysuit and Tee sewing pattern is now available in extended sizes in our 0-20 and Curve 14-30 ranges! This pattern is such a wardrobe basic, the perfect accompaniment to a statement skirt or pair of bottoms, and wonderful for layering under dresses or overalls. I went absolutely nuts when creating the views for this patterns (i love options!). It comes with 6 views, tee and bodysuit options, 3 sleeve lengths and 3 neckline finishes.
I’m going to go through the differences between the Curve pattern and the standard pattern as well as detailing each of the variations, and telling you a little bit about them and how you can use them. We’ve made a few changes to how this pattern is formatted to make it easier for you to take advantage of the modular elements, so I’ll detail those as well!
Making Basket Weave Mules
I’m so excited to show you my newest pair of handmade shoes! I keep seeing so many basket weave mules and have been absolutely dying to make a pair myself. And of course I couldn’t help using this pair as an opportunity to try out some of the skills I learnt whilst taking the I Can Make Shoes online course, before I jump into my first pair of completely closed shoes. I used the techniques from the shoe course to make my pattern along with inspiration images from Pinterest. I honestly can’t even tell you how much I love these shoes!! I have been wearing them constantly and we even used them in our latest photoshoot which was fun!
I thought you might enjoy seeing the process from beginning to end, as well as some info on what I learnt along the way!
