Marri Cami and Protea skirt mashup!

Marri camisole + Protea skirt mashup! Megan Nielsen Patterns blog

Friends I am so excited to show you this super easy Marri tiered dress hack – because it’s actually just a very simple Marri cami and Protea skirt mashup! This hack is so incredibly easy, but gives you an entirely different spin on the Marri pattern. You know how much i love getting extra mileage out of my sewing patterns, and it’s somehow even more fun coming up with hacks that combine two patterns.

I made this dress last year for my 40th birthday party and had been saving this Miranda Sofroniou “Readers” fabric for quite some time to make this exact dress. I’m so happy with how it turned out and have really enjoyed wearing it over the last year.

So without further ado, let’s get into how you can make your own Marri + Protea mashup dress!

The only pattern alteration you’ll need to do is to take your chosen Marri bodice (i am using the square neck bodice) and curve the waistline so it sits a bit more nicely for a dress. Conveniently I placed the pattern joins on the natural waistline, so you don’t even need to find the waistline yourself.

As a simple trick to do this quickly is to grab the curved camisole hemline pattern piece 11 and use that to trace a curved front hemline on the bodice. I just line up the centre front and curved edge at the sideseam and that’s it!

You can use the camisole back bodice pattern piece 4 as is without any alterations. Sew up the Marri tie strap camisole top by following the Marri pattern instructions or the sewalong here but do not hem the waistline edge.

Sew the Protea skirt as per the Protea pattern instructions, omitting the waistband – or follow the sewalong instructions here. Instead of attaching the Protea bodice to the Protea skirt, you will now attach the Marri bodice to the Protea skirt.

And that my friends is it! Can you believe how easy that pattern mashup is?
