I’m so excited to let you know that the Cascade skirt sewing pattern is now available in our full size range, and now includes pockets and a new variation! Cascade has always been a beautiful wrap skirt, but for this update I wanted to add some of the most requested details to give you even more options. We also have a full sewalong coming where Holly will be showing you how to sew some additional much requested variations.
Cascade is a full wrap skirt with graduated hemline. The pattern sits on the natural waist and features two lengths, a tie or button waistband, roomy anchored side seam pockets and the option to mix and match skirts and waistbands from either view.
I’m going to go through what specifically has been updated, details each of the variations, and tell you a little bit about them and how you can use them!

When I first designed Cascade I wanted to make a full wrap skirt that had a lot of feminine draping and was still simple enough for a beginner to make. When extending the sizing and creating the new Cascade Curve pattern it was really important to me to maintain the original goal of the pattern, whilst still making thoughtful design decisions for our curve makers.
What has changed?
The pattern pieces have been re-graded to include additional sizes – Cascade originally included 5 sizes, and now includes 11! We used this opportunity to add a new variation and much requested side seam pockets.
Both 0-20 and Curve 14-34 PDF patterns now include size layering so that you can choose to print all sizes or just the size you will be cutting out. This is a PDF only release and will not be available in printed format.
Originally Cascade included the one midi length skirt, but we had so many requests over the years for a knee length version that we knew we had to include it when we regraded.

Choosing your size range
If you find yourself in the crossover 14-20 sizes and are struggling to choose between the Cascade and Cascade Curve patterns we will have a comprehensive post tomorrow detailing how to choose the pattern that’s best for you.

View A – Wrap skirt with graduated hemline tie waistband and pockets
If this view looks familiar, it’s because this was the original Cascade view! Plus pockets! This skirt has always been popular, but the number one request I’ve received over the years is to add pockets to it. I had originally not included pockets in this design to keep the sewing steps as simple as possible – but who am I to deny pockets! I love it when you all come up with great suggestions like that. This view sits on the natural waist and has a narrow tie waistband, that can be tied at the front or back of the skirt. The skirt is a full circle in volume but the graduating hemline means you don’t need to worry about evening out your hemline before wearing (Score!).

View B – Knee length wrap skirt with button waistband and pockets
This new view of Cascade is the second most common request we received – a knee length variation! It’s got all the wonderful features of the original Cascade pattern, but the hem finishes at the knee. To maintain consistency with the rest of the pattern we have kept that curve front. This view includes a button waistband, but you can easily swap out the tie waistband instead.
