A few years ago Bunny wanted to make a long pencil case to store art supplies and paint brushes. She chose to use Ellie Whittaker’s Big Things canvas fabric which was a great weight for a pencil case. We used this fabric for one of the Mini Eucalypt samples, and Bunny wore that dress to death and adored the fabric – so it was really nice she could use the last of it for her pencil case.

Given she already knew how to use the sewing machine from previous sewing projects, I thought this would be a great opportunity to teach her how to make a simple pattern and how to install a zipper. It was really fun helping her figure out how big to make everything, and I mostly just stayed near her to offer guidance whilst she worked on it.

As I was editing these photos I realised that Bunny is wearing the exact outfit from this post – so she was obviously super into the combo of her Jarrah sweater and Mini Hudson pants! I always love seeing my kids enjoy the things I’ve made them over and over.
This pencil case such a fun project to guide her through and watch her improve her skills, and even better to see her regularly pull this pencil case out when she is working on a new art piece!
