First up in the construction of our Brumby skirts are the pockets, if you’re making Version 1 & 2! Though the pattern pieces are different for Version 1 & Version 2, the steps are the same and can be followed here. Ready?
Place the Pocket Lining on the Skirt Front with right sides together and so that the notches match up.
Sew 5/8″ from the raw edge along the pocket opening.
Clip the raw edges around the curve, being careful not to cut through the stitches.
Alternatively, instead of clipping and notching, you can trim the seam allowance back using pinking shears.
Turn the pocket lining towards the inside of the skirt and press it into shape.
Topstitch 1/2″ from the sewn edge along the pocket opening or according to your preference.
With the wrong side of the Skirt Front facing upwards, place the Pocket Facing right sides together with the pocket lining.
Sew 5/8″ around the raw edge of the pocket lining and facing. Make sure that you are only attaching the lining and facing. You should not be attaching to the skirt. Finish the raw edge as desired and press.
Baste the pocket lining and facing to the skirt at the side seam and waistline by sewing 1/2″ from the edge.
Repeat for the other side.
