How To Choose Between Reef & Reef Curve

How to Choose Between Reef & Reef Curve

If you find yourself in the crossover 14-20 sizes and are struggling to choose between the Reef and Reef Curve patterns, I thought it might help to provide a bit of visual comparison between them! Today I’ll be sharing a diagram comparing a size 18 from our 0-20 range shown in beige, to the size 18 in the Curve range as shown in green. As there are a number of minor pattern pieces I have only shown the main camisole and shorts pattern pieces for an overall snapshot of differences.

How to choose between Reef & Reef Curve

As with all of our patterns, Reef sizes 0-20 have been drafted for a 2″ (5cm) difference between the upper bust and full bust measurement. Reef Curve sizes 14-30 have been drafted for a 4” (10cm) difference between the upper bust and full bust measurement. The Curve pattern is drafted with the same style and design details but with a curvy figure in mind.

As you can see there is slightly more over all ease in the Curve pattern, as well as a higher waistline, bust darts for a better fit for fuller busts, a higher underarm for more bust coverage, and more room in the crotch curve. More specifically when it comes to ease, there is more ease across the bust in the Curve pattern – this was added intentionally to make it easier to customize the fit of your camisole, and a section of the instructions will walk you through how to do that.

If you find yourself in the crossover of the two ranges in sizes 14-20 we recommend that you choose your pattern based on your high bust to full bust difference and personal ease preferences.

Both patterns come with the same awesome variations and all our tutorials and add on ideas can be applied to either!

I hope you have found this breakdown on how to choose between Reef & Reef Curve helpful. If you have any questions please let me know in the comments!

I would be interested if the sizing for curvy extended down. With a 39″ full bust, but 6″ – 7″ between FB and upper bust, I’d need size 8 curvy plus 2″FBA. As it is, neither size range works for me ?

I read that Curve is written for for 4” between high bust and full bust. I’m really on the cusp of the two patterns based on my other measurements, with a 3” difference between bust measurements. What would you suggest in this case?
