Megan Nielsen Briar top and Axel skirt in marble print scuba from Mood Fabrics

Remember a little while ago I told you about how I had made a Briar top / Axel skirt matching set from some gorgeous marble print scuba from Mood Fabrics, but hadn’t worn them together as a set yet?

Well my friends – i finally wore them together – and as Chris and I were about to walk out the door to go to dinner, Bunny said ” wow Mum! Those are SUCH nice pajamas”.

YUP. You can always count on kids for a good dose of brutal honesty. Needless to say I turned around and got changed :)

So as much as I absolutely adore both of these pieces separately, I think I’m happy to admit that they aren’t as amazing together as I imagined they would be. I n my head this was going to be a seriously EPIC outfit, and in reality isn’t particularly inspiring. Which is fine, because as someone who lives in separates I know they will get more wear as separates than a matching set anyway.

I guess that’s the key to making a matching set – you always want to make sure that you are happy to wear both pieces on their own! What do you think about matching sets? Should i give up the “perfect matching set” dream?

I laughed reading your post – I have your Axel skirt pattern but I haven’t made it up yet BUT I’m now working on your Reef pattern in silk which I love. I just have to sew up the shorts and yes I made it up as a “set”. I did what you did here with a top pattern and a pants pattern – making them up in the same beautiful, soft french terry and my husband’s comment was, “It looks okay but you won’t wear it out right? Like it’s lounge wear?” I’m sure my face fell because no that wasn’t the plan at all. :)

I’m not seeing pajamas at all! This set looks really cute together! I personally love it, especially how you styled it.

I think that outfit looks very nice on you. Not PJs!

I really like this. From a distance it looks like a dress and I think you can totally wear them together!

If Bunny thought these were PJs, I can only imagine how smashing a collection of PJs you must own. Please model those for us too. In the meantime, your outfit is quite lovely on you and definitely should be worn together. I know what you mean about being so excited after imagining the most smashing outfit…and then it is a let down. That is normal. Take it from us…this is a beautiful combo.

I love this outfit and how you styled it! It looks comfortable but definitely not like pjs or lounge wear.
