I’m so excited to introduce you to a new blog series that will begin next month all about sustainable sewing!
If you’ve been following me for a while then you’ll know that issues of environmental and social responsibility are incredibly important to me. I put a lot of work into making environmental and ethically conscious choices in my daily life, and have implemented so many lifestyle changes in the past 6 years, but the area that I find the hardest is in sewing. I love making things but I want to explore what it means to create in a more consciously sustainable manner.
// MEET NICKI //
I’m really thrilled to to introduce my dear friend Nicki of This is Moonlight as the author of this series. Nicki and I actually first met when our boys were in the same Pre-Primary school class a few years ago (Perth can be such a small place sometimes!), but you may know her as the creator of Fibershed maker’s movement.
As the designer, knitter, weaver and seamstress of her own clothes Nicki has a passion for exploring sustainability in textiles.
She has been instrumental in the foundation of Fibreshed Melbourne as she believes connecting communities around slow fashion is the way forward. Reframing sustainability as something of value to all makers is her passion, and she loves to inspire by doing and learning herself.
She has such a wealth of knowledge about all things eco-textile and I admire her so much for all of the personal research she has put into learning about sustainable making, as well as living what she has learnt. I honestly can’t think of anyone better to author this series!
I am incredibly excited about this series, and I think you are going to absolutely love what we have planned! Posts will go live once a month, and cover a range of different topics surrounding sustainability and eco textiles.
If you have any questions at all, or any special requests for topics to cover, please let us know in the comments!
Meg xoxo
