The Refashioners 2016 jeanius challenge

Megan Nielsen Eucalypt tank dress made from old jeans

Megan Nielsen Eucalypt tank dress made from old jeans Megan Nielsen Eucalypt tank dress made from old jeans Hey lovelies! I am so excited to finally show you this make!

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that i got my start in sewing refashioning. Cutting up something old and making it into something new and special has always been near and dear to my heart. Which is why i found it absolutely impossible to say no to darling Portia when she asked me to take part in this years Refashioners challenge: Jeans! Given how much time i spent in my teenage years ripping up my jeans (and my moms… sorry mom!) and making them into (terrible really terrible LOL) new things, I was super excited to try refashioning jeans all over again.

Head on over to Portia’s blog and check out my post here to find out all about how i made this dress! Can’t wait to hear what you think!

I love the star shape you’ve created with the different colours in the denim! I’ve been enjoying watching this challenge unfold…back in the ’70’s I bought a maxi skirt that had been refashioned from jeans (I didn’t do it myself – I simply bought it from a crazy shop in downtown Toronto that was taking in old jeans and making them into all sorts of clothing then reselling them in the shop) – I wore that maxi skirt to death! I did hand embroider lots of lovely things on it though :)

This is such a great refashion, I love the almost sunray effect on the dress and I’m digging the raw hem, awesome make

This is a brilliant reuse of fabric and a new way to showcase the Eucalypt pattern! So, I’ve been a longtime fan of your designs. Is the new jacket the lovely one from the 2010 Perth Collection;)

This is so, so cute! I love the lived-in look that you get when refashioning denim. The contrast is so fun. My favorite shorts were made from a couple pairs of old jeans and are still going strong 5 years later. Love the new life old stuff can have when you get creative!

Ooh, this is fantastic. I love how much of a graphic impact it has – not something you see often with denim!
