If you follow me on instagram you may have noticed that i got a little obsessed with making Baby Bird headbands this week. Finally an adorable way to use up the fabric scraps i can’t part with!
And since so many people asked, i decided to make a little tutorial and free pattern for all of you to use – yay! If you don’t have a little girl, i think this project is still for you as they would make great gifts for little girls or for baby showers/new baby pressies. Someone even suggested giving them out as party favors for little girls birthday parties, which i think is an awesome idea that i might steal for Bunny’s party next year!
This is such a simple project, don’t worry if you are not the worlds best sewer, you can do this! And the results are awesome. I can’t even tell you how many mums tried to buy these off me at school this week.
Ok enough of me blabbing, who wants to see a tutorial and more pictures of Baby Bird being adorable?! After the jump!
First things first, enter your email address and your free sewing pattern will be delivered right to your inbox, then follow our super easy instructions.
1// Print off the pattern & tape together. I’ve provided the pattern in two sizes: baby (works perfectly for my 5 month old baby bird) and child (works perfectly for my 6 year old honey bunny).
2// You are going to need some stretchy fabric (the stretchier the better), you could even use an old tshirt! Fold your fabric perpendicular to the grain (the pattern should run along the stretchiest part of the fabric). Place pattern on fold & cut out.
3// With right sides together sew 1/4″ all the way round leaving a small gap in your stitches as indicated on the pattern piece. You can use either a zig zag stitch on a regular machine or a serger/overlocker.
4// Turn your headband the right way round by pushing through the gap in your sewing. No need to close this hole we are going to hide it!
5// Now tie a knot, and adjust to fit your little one (the gap in your sewing should be hidden in the knot now).
Place on gorgeous baby or include in a gift for a friend!!

I love this! I have a 4 month old with crazy hair-I cannot wait to sew a few for her!
I hear you, baby Birds hair is like insane. Mohawk crazy. I’ve had her in one every day for the last 2 weeks, and i feel like it’s made her hair look so much more normal (and adorable!)
