it’s a two seam top

two seam maternity top by Megan Nielsen

Well my dear friends, here is one of the tops i made myself using the same method as my Two Seam Dress!

Since it was one of the first i made, i don’t quite love it as much as the dress, but none the less, i still wear it almost once a week. This one was made with more ease than the final tutorial i shared, and is also using a thicker stiffer jersey with much less drape. I think it shows pretty well what i had mentioned in the tutorial, with regards to the design working better with a thin drapey jersey. I’m also a little tempted to take it in, as it’s bordering on just too baggy.

As to the fabric itself – I don’t normally go for a horizontal stripe… ever… but i figure, my waistline is already huge at this point, so big whoop hehehe. It’s from one of my favourite local perth shops called Knitwit. Its a great store that only stocks stretch fabrics and they have a fantastic selection. I bought some of the fabrics used for Bunny’s Rainbow Dash costumer there, and i always find their customer service fantastic. I’m not sure if i’ve mentioned it here on Design Diary before, but when i was learning to sew with knits when i was at University, i used to come to this store regularly (its lovely and close to UWA), and the sweet ladies who worked there would give me endless tips and pointers for how to sew better with knits. It was invaluable, and that’s the kind of thing that makes me super loyal to a store. You know?

As a side note – do you see these shorts – they are actually the shiny shorts i shared with you a while back. Honestly, can you believe how badly this fabric has held up?? I am not kidding you when i tell you how carefully i wash them, and there is like no sparkle whatsoever left! Don’t get me wrong, i still really love them, but i’m kind of shocked to see how the fabric has worn so badly. I’m sure that by the end of this pregnancy they will just be light wash cutoffs!!

AND last thing – check out how much that bump has popped out!! YIKES! I still have 2.5 months to go… there are no words hehehe

You look adorable! I can’t wait to try my hand at this dress/shirt, but fabric is hard to find in Rio de Janeiro… On a random note, I keep seeing those Swedish Hasbeens shoes (the brand) popping up in various blogs. They’re so cute! I assume they’re comfortable if a pregnant lady can wear them! ;)

Stunning outfit, you look so stylish. I adore Hasbeens and have a red pair. Sadly the British weather doesn’t allow for them to be out of their box. I think my next pair will be the ones you’ve got.
