inspire me: castle hill

While we were in Northern Queensland visiting my brother, we took a walk up Castle Hill, one of the most awe inspiring rocks i’ve ever seen. It was huge (apparently it’s only a few metres short of a mountain, which is rather a contentious point with locals). It was a kind of Australia I’ve honestly never seen before, and it was fantastic!

I have to admit, i got more than little woozy at the top, because it really did feel like you could just fall off the cliff. Anyway, aside from that, it was one of the most gorgeous sights ever.

The red rock was covered with pale green and rusty moss, soft grasses that moved like waves in the wind, and trees i’d never seen that were hardened and blackened by bushfires. And beyond all of that, the gorgeous Magnetic Island loomed mysteriously behind curtain of thick humid air.

Simply breathtaking.

This trip really solidified in my mind that we need to see more of our wonderful country.

Sorry – I’m usually a lurker but I had to comment on your post, as soon as I saw the hill I thought it was familiar, and then I read Castle Hill. I’m the North Queenslander and have just come home from a holiday in Townsville. Anyway, thank you for having such a nice blog to read :)
