My ears get really cold. That should probably have been the post title hehehe. But seriously, they do. The problem is I hate wearing hats, they ruin my hair, and i dunno i just have trouble finding a winter hat suits me. So I tend to wear a lot of woolly headbands and earwarmers.
So when I was in JoAnns a few weeks ago and they were selling knitted headbands for less than a dollar each, a little dinging bell went off in my head and i bought three. Have you noticed the faux turban trend that seems to be going around? Well this is my little take on it – or perhaps they look more like bows? Regardless, I’m so happy with how they turned out!
The customization was super easy – here’s what I did.
Optional: tack the headband in a nice shape before you start.
Method 1:
Cut a piece of leather (mine was 1″ by 3.5″), wrap it around the headband and sew in place. Keep in mind that if your leather is thick you may need to punch holes in it before sewing.
Method 2:
Cut a piece of leather (mine was 1″ by 3.5″), wrap it around the headband and glue the leather to itself using leather glue.
Method 3:
Grab some yarn, ribbon, trim, whatever you have on hand – wrap it around the headband a few times – tie a knot and hide the ends.
Wear and enjoy!
