Something Anything

Lately I’ve been feeling somewhat burned out. I’ve been tackling so many projects, that I’ve gone through some seriously frustrating moments where i lack in inspiration and motivation. When I find myself feeling like I’ve lost all creativity, I turn to my “something anything” solution.

Basically what that means, is that when I feel lacking in creativity, or motivation, or I’m just plain stumped – I just make something, anything. Just to keep myself going. Even if its just something silly like a pillowcase. It may sound strange – but my “something anything” method has gotten me out of a lot of motivation holes!

Thats where this skirt comes in. My friend Casey recently had a little sew along – where everyone was making a circle skirt. It’s been years since i made a circle skirt, and following someone elses instruction was the perfect motivation to do something. I’m really quite happy with it! It was the perfect project to un-slump myself! hehe. Now i think i just need to make myself a lovely little crinoline to wear underneath it…

That skirt is amazing! I also haven’t made a circle skirt in years. It was my first sewing pattern ever! Your skirt looks fantastic. You’ve got me motivated to get out my sewing machine and maybe attempt another one. That skirt looks so classic on you!

I LOVE the idea of making something when you’re feeling uninspired. Forcing a moment of creativity to spark the engines of motivation. Awesome!

Also, the result of your creativity? I LOVE IT!

Very cute, love it paired with this shirt.
Sometimes I have that same ‘burned out’ feeling, it’s nice to do an independent creative project that reminds me why I love doing what I’m doing :)

That’s it… I NEED a plaid circle skirt!!! I have seen so many variations on the plaid circle skirt, but I really love the tones in the fabric you used.

Tell me about feeling burned out! :p I’ve been struggling with that of late too, only now it’s thankfully starting to feel a little less “forced” and more natural. The summer was the worst–I kept tinkering away on little things here and there to at least stay in the habit. Have to say, the circle skit sew-along was the turning point for me too–it got me jumpstarted again! (Though now I don’t have time for sewing… gah!!!)

What an AMAZING piece to come out of a funk. I think I’m going to take your ‘something anything’ rule for myself…but for writing instead!

Love your skirt, such earthy colours are great for colder weather. I’m about to make one using Casey’s instructions too.

I think it’s a great idea to sew something easy when you’re feeling in a slump, just seems to keep you going.

It’s hard to come by knowledgeable people about this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re
talking about! Thanks
