How Not To Dress For A Hike

You will inevitably laugh at me when I tell you this – but over the 4th of July weekend we decided to go on a family hike. I being the crazy nutter that I am proposed this outfit (with sneakers instead of espadrilles – i’m not totally crazy people).

Chris had a good laugh and then sent me back to my wardrobe to choose another outfit.

I tried on no less than 5. None looked cute. It was rather upsetting. In the end I settled on my scalloped shorts and a simple top – and you know what I learnt?

A. short shorts are embarassing for hiking… enough said.
B. Hiking involves a lot of sweating, and long sleeved button shirts don’t help
C. I have no idea how to dress for a hike and should probably be banned…
D. Hiking with toddlers is about the dumbest idea ever
E. I hate hiking.

Top: Thrifted and altered
Shorts: Megan Nielsen, Far Horizon shorts SS2011
Shoes: Steve Madden
Belt: Vintage, via my moms closet
Headband: Mimco
Necklace: Gift from my God parents as a child

You look waaayyyy more adorable than I do when I hike. How are you hiking in wedges in the most important question. I have weak ankles and I trip easily when I hike even when wearing hiking shoes.

I just came across your blog after seeing a link to it on Cassey’s. I love it bTW very beautiful and inspiring to home sewers and thrifters (and I’m a new one I need all the inspiration I can get!) crazy thing was as I was browsing through your store I realized I bought a pattern from you this spring to make my dear friend a maternity dress!!!!! I was shocked what are the chances of that happening in the wide wide world web? The dress turned out well and I’m going to make a top for myself now. Thank you for all the beauty.

Tehehe, I always hike wearing inappropriate clothing! Our block of land backs onto D’Aguilar National Park in QLD. I am forever hiking up the mountain wearing denim shorts and tights while my boyfriend tells me how silly I am. Bahaha, you look so cute, love the sunnies!

Hopefully soon we will actually be able to build a house and live there, instead of just visiting it on weekends :) Very much looking forward to a tree change.
PS: I’ve become addicted to your blog, it’s bookmarked so I can’t lose it!

oh my…hahahah! being an avid hiker myself…i totally would’ve laughed at you had you come out of your room, ready for a hike in this outfit. while absolutely adorable…it just doesn’t work. (as you learned.)
what’s funny is that i’ve seen several bloggers who claim to “hike” wearing skirts and wedges and pretty things…
what i consider a hike – has to be what they consider a leisurely stroll through nature. lol! which is fine!
a few years ago, i trained and hiked several times a week to raise $4,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and ultimately, hiked Yosemite Falls. It was quite an experience to say the least. I learned first aid, nutrition, filtering water from a stream, and so much more. Not only that, but I learned how to be one of those crunchy granola girls who loves to hike AND manages to look cute at the same time. It’s possible! ;) anyway…wow…i totally just rambled.
