SS2011 Inspiration: The Desert

All images from The Desert – from a volume in the LIFE Nature Library,
by A. Starker Leopold and the Editors of LIFE, published 1964

I’m not sure why, but for some reason when I go thrift stores I seem to beeline for the books. I think it’s because I once found some really amazing vintage sewing books and I’m hoping I’ll find more? Whatever the case I love old books. Especially ones with amazing photography.

I found this one a few months ago, and I couldn’t put it down. As you know, I’ve been really inspired by this poem, and as a result I am so drawn to all things dry and dusty. And these pictures just spoke to me. I love the textures of not only the landscapes themselves, but of the grainy photographs. I love the colours, I love the arid atmosphere.
