One of my dear friends asked me recently why I never post my sketches. The truth is, it’s because I’ve been trying to get better at sketching! I’m not particularly proud of these, but I’m posting them for posterity, to remember where I started. I recently purchased the book Nine Heads and am really excited to learn a better sketching technique. Sketches are such an important part of the process and I really want mine to be as good as possible.
I have them pinned up on my wall the whole time I’m working to keep me focused. Obviously, I have lots of other detailed technical sketches and notes and such, but these are the main ones I look at all the time. You may notice a few changes – the Kelly skirt is missing (I added it at the last minute after many reader requests) and most obviously the Darling Ranges dress – which I originally planned to be blue, but then couldn’t get anymore fabric. As these things often work out, the brown version is now my favourite, and fits much better with the collection, and both it and the kelly skirt were a hit! Let’s just call it fate :)
So there you go – my first basic sketches. I’m really looking forward to improving my skills and I’ll make sure to update you when I’ve got more to share!
