new sewing kits

Megan Nielsen sewing kits

WOW you guys – i am so so blown away with the reactions to my Breakwater collection. I quite literally started crying from all the tweets, emails and comments – you are all so amazing, and i’m beyond thrilled, actually i’m overwhelmed with how much you like my new patterns. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!! All the hard work is worth it for that kind of response! It’s been ridiculously hard to keep tight lipped about these for so long, because i adore them so much :)

And as promised last week, new sewing kits are now available in store!!

I’ve been so excited about this that it’s taken all my energy not to spill the beans! Every time i release a collection the emails flood in asking me where to find the fabrics i used – SO this time i planned! I’ve created sewing kits for every look from my Breakwater collection lookbook – so you can make the exact garment you see!

Awesome right?! i’m pretty ridiculously thrilled!!

But not only are there kits for Cascade, Crescent, Tania and Eucalypt, but there are also two new kits for Kelly, Briar and Banksia! Check them out here! They’re in limited quantities, and some actually sold out right away when i listed them yesterday- so i’d be quick if you’re interested.

As per usual, my kits include all the elements you need like fabric, interfacing, buttons, bias, the pattern etc – but i also add in fun extras like Megan Nielsen patterns clothing tags, a tote bag for carrying it all and a pretty inspirational image of the finished garment. It’s pretty rad :) It almost makes me sad to part with them hehehe

I hope you love them as much as i enjoyed putting them together for you!!

Kelly Skirt variaton : maxi length with gathers

April 25th, 2013

Ok, I may be getting out of control with these Kelly Skirt variations, but I can’t help it – it is a super easy and fun pattern to change up! And this is my favorite variation so far (ok, I say that every time. But I swear this one is). It is definitely the most fun to walk in – it flowed and moved so amazingly. I felt like a supermodel! Kinda :)

Read on to see how to do this yourself, and check out my blog HollyDolly to see more of my outfit!

Kelly Skirt Variation : Colorblocked Midi Length

April 18th, 2013

I have another super easy variation for you all today – a colorblocked midi length version of the Kelly Skirt! I’m really not exaggerating when I say this is super simple. It is literally just adding length to the bottom of the skirt, just in a contrasting color. No alterations to the actual skirt pattern required!

This really doesn’t need a full tutorial, but read on for a quick explaination……

Kelly Skirt Variation : Scalloped Hem

March 21st, 2013

As promised, here is a finished Kelly Skirt using the Scalloped Hem Tutorial from yesterday!

A note – if you want to do a scalloped hem on the Kelly skirt or any other garment that has an overlapping placket, make sure that you overlap your scallop when you trace it. Or else it won’t line up right!

You also may have noticed that this skirt is a little shorter than the originally Kelly skirt – I brought the hem line up quite a bit. So if you were wondering what a shorter version would look like, this is it!

Kelly Skirt, Jalie 2921

Say hello to Lauren, of Lladybird!

Lauren is a super adorable sewer and crafter with a quirky and adorable sense of style. She made the Kelly skirt in a fun navy corduroy, and it came out so good! Cute, right?! P.S – she also made that top!

Head on over to Lladybird to see more photos of her Kelly skirt, as well as her other creations!Kelly Skirt, Jalie 2921

So something pretty darned cool happened last week – a couple of my favourite twitter gals ( @notchesnnotions@StephanieKCR@HouseOFpinheiro, @BimbleandPimble, @almondrock_sews, @FreddievonFredgot together and started a twitter party which Sarah (@notchesnnotions) has dubbed #kellyskirtfriday ! The basic idea being that they would all wear their Kelly skirts on Fridays, take a quickie phone photo and post it to twitter.

I’ve gotta tell you, SO FUN! If i’ve said it once i’ve said it a million times – i get so much joy out of seeing people enjoy my designs in their daily lives – you can pretty much consider my friday made!

They’re doing it again this Friday, and i’m inviting you all to join! Just take a quick snap of your lovely self in your Kelly skirt and tweet it with the tag #kellyskirtfriday – thats it – easy right?!  No deadlines, no rules. These girls rock.

And as always, you can find me on twitter @megan_nielsen - Now i just need to decide which Kelly to wear…. decisions…
