Have I talked about this little top yet? I don’t think so – but I keep meaning to, because it’s one of my go to lazy day pieces.
Sometimes I like to buy things because I see potential in them. Not because of what it is right now, but because of what it could be.
If you follow the Delightful Dozen like i do – you’ve probably seen them all style up the Modcloth Dynamite dress. I loved the print of that dress. But after all of their comments, and reviews on Modcloth – it was obvious that it was unwearably short for a regular height person. But when it went on sale for $10 I bought it – knowing I could make something else out of it.
When it arrived I could see why everyone had complained. The quality was really low – and though I am a lover of short skirts, and I’m not very tall – this dress was a butt scraper. yikes.
So I made a really quick alteration to it.
I lifted up the top tier, and carefully cut away the bottom tier.

Now I have a cute flowy tank top for summer! (and even better I used the bottom tier to make something for Bunny that I’ll show you tomorrow!). If you have a good memory – yes I’ve already worn it exactly the same way, and this was it tucked in last week.
ps. here’s the tutorial for making these cut off shorts – since a couple of people have asked :)

I love the pattern on the top, it kinda reminds me of cherry blossom.
Your site has inspired me to repurpose so many of my clothes, as to how they’ll actually turn out I’ve no idea!
I’m so happy to hear that Kiri!! I love repurposing old clothing!!! I feel like i’m saving it :)
I actually think I may prefer this as a top then I did as a dress! It looks so good on you!
YAY!!! thanks hun!
