I’m always amazed by how much difference a really little alteration to a piece of clothing can make. I loved this dress the minute I tried it on, but the length was sooo mumsie. I can’t stand wearing anything that hits me between my knee and calf. It’s an awful unflattering length. And that’s exactly where this dress sat. Every time I wore it I felt super short. But I knew it would be a lot cuter if I hemmed it. I ended up taking the hem up by a massive 4 inches… but I’m soooo much happier with the result.
Plus the empire waist and all the gathering is making it work really well right now when pretty much nothing fits over my belly. It literally looks like I have a basketball taped to me these days, which of course makes me wonder how on earth all that tummy can defy gravity so well! After two pregnancies I’ve got a huge amount of respect for my body, it just blows my mind that it was built to do this, and then go back to normal again after!?! It’s nothing short of miraculous.
Meanwhile, I recently rediscovered this cardigan in the back of my wardrobe, such a happy moment! I’ve had it so long I can’t even remember when I bought it… college? highschool? I don’t know, but it must be one of those, because I bought it in the Miss Shop in Myer (which for my non-Aussie friends is the juniors section of an Australian department store)… now I feel like I shouldn’t even admit I got it there, but I dont’ think it looks juvenile, so it’s fine right?? Anyway, I’m still really bored with my hair at the moment, so I’m trying to wear it slightly different ways… not sure if this was a total hit, but I kind of like it none the less.

I know the EXACT feeling Meg, below the knee means 10 inches shorter in height for me too. I adore baby doll princess silhouettes because I look normal height and whilst my body is in proportion, I don’t want to look any shorter than I already am!
I adore your hair up like that, in the ‘pollyanna’ style my mum calls it and my friend calls it the ‘hair do’ style. It’s hard having curls though, last night I had super straight hair from the hairdressers, and got caught in the rain! Only my fringe was frizzy (and standing about 5 inches up from my head) and the back bits were dead straight. EEP!
You look beautiful! I’m in complete agreement about the hem length…mid-calf do my legs no favor!
It looks great on you.
I spent last night practicing hemming dresses! I say practicing because I am terrible at it, but it is something that I feel is detrimental for re-vamping a wardrobe!
You look gorgeous, and I love the new length of your dress!
Oh my, you look adorable. All the best with your baby, I was where you are now last November, almost in my old clothes! you are so right it is an amazing feat.
I totally agree with you about the length. I HATE that below the knee length for almost everything. Great length now!
[...] I did have to hem it a bit because of my height… it was below my knee and you know my thoughts on things that hit below my knee. I think it’s perfect now! Of course this is really great news for those of you who are tall, [...]
